Looking for Few Good Hurricane Watchers

The Hurricane Watch Net, a network of amateur radio operators that provide communications to and from hurricane-threatened and affected areas, is looking to add to its roster of net control operators.

Net control operators have more responsibility than simple weather observers and reporters. They can relay communications and weather reports to and from the National Hurricane Center and other net controllers, sometimes for days at a time (as long as a storm is within 300 miles of the U.S. coast), along with other select interested parties such as emergency responders. They also spend a great deal of time monitoring the HWN chat room. Location on the East Coast or Gulf Coast is required. Bilingual operators are highly desired and prospective members in Latin America or the Caribbean are welcome as well.

More information can be found here.

The HWN has a long-time working relationship with the National Hurricane Center and the Canadian Hurricane Centre.
