Katz’ Cumulus Division to “Evangelize Power of Sound”

Big radio rep firm Katz Radio Group, owned by Clear Channel, is launching a division just for servicing the 460 or so Cumulus-owned stations.

It will be called Westwood One National Sales, picking up on the name of the familiar brand that is now owned by Cumulus. The business will have offices in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles; and Bryan Forbes is promoted to senior vice president, general manager of Westwood One National Sales. He has been VP/director of sales at KRG for 11 years.

“The new long-term agreement supports the companies’ mutual goal to evangelize the power of sound and drive more dollars into the sector,” they said in an announcement.

They also said the arrangement will also offer advertisers and agencies access to a new traffic system at Cumulus that will “improve speed-to-market, giving Cumulus advertisers and agencies real-time pricing and availability of minute-by-minute, market-by-market opportunities across the country.”

The announcement was made by Mark Gray, president of Katz Radio Group, and Steve Shaw, president of Westwood One. Shaw said the agreement “allows us to focus on creating more multi-platform solutions for our advertisers including our assets in network, spot, digital, sports and spoken word.”

Clear Channel’s Katz Radio Group now represents approximately 4,000 radio stations and has seven sales divisions, including Katz Radio, Christal Radio, Eastman Radio, Univision Radio, CBS Radio, Entercom Radio and KRG Digital. The company has its roots in the first media rep firm in the United States, going back to the 19th century.
