FCC License Count: 14,355 Full-Power Stations

There are a total of 30,473 licensed U.S. broadcast stations. That’s as of June 30, according to the Federal Communications Commission.

Of that total, 14,355 are radio stations, breaking down as 4,789 AMs, 6,460 FM commercial and 3,106 FM non-commercial. Another 858 LPFMs are counted separately.

Compared to December 2008, the most recent data, in June there were 66 more FM educational stations, 33 more commercial FMs, three more AM stations and one fewer LPFM licensed in the country.

Licensed FM translators and boosters increased as well to 6,145 translators and boosters at the end of June compared to 6,120 as of Dec. 30, 2008.

I have been in and about radio for years. It seems to me that since the FCC took my chance away(telecomm. act 1996). That it is increasingly hard to find investors. All I want is a little local station that can be ran from here(local).And not ran from a city that don't even know we are here. It is like "Hey, you listen to what we give, or nothing. I can't even start a new station because FCC say's We won't give permit at this time. When is the right time?
