Three Commissioners Sign Up for NAB Session

Three FCC commissioners have committed to participate in an NAB Show session in April, including the two who joined the panel most recently.

Commissioners Michael Copps, Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Attwell Baker will speak at the session “The Washington Face-Off” on Tuesday, April 13 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Show organizers say the regulators will participate in “an informative discussion about spectrum management, media ownership and developments in digital media.”

The NAB Show Radio Luncheon, meanwhile, will feature Phil Hendrie, who is syndicated by Talk Radio Network-FM. The satirist also has done voice work for “King of the Hill” and “Futurama” on Fox. NAB said he will “demonstrate the role of radio as an entertainment platform.”

Hendrie, shown, started as a disc jockey at WBJW(AM) in Winter Park, Fla. and worked at various stations before moving to Los Angeles as a weekend host at KFI(AM).

“In 1990 at KVEN(AM) in Ventura, Calif., Hendrie introduced his first fictional character on air — an Iraqi, Raj Feenan,” according to his bio. “The Gulf War was happening and Feenan vociferously defended Saddam Hussein. Thinking he was a real person, listeners went ballistic and the phones lit up. An entire cast of characters would evolve from that moment on, marking Hendrie’s place in radio history.”
