BBG Holds Town Hall

On Wednesday, a meeting by the Broadcasting Board of Governors focused on the new fiscal budget currently in the hands of Congress, as well as recent international trips by some of the Governors, including a meeting at the beginning of May in Russia to discuss the future of an American media presence there.

In an agency-wide town hall meeting, the BBG broke down the various allotments in the FY2014 budget request for $731.1 million, which was submitted to Congress on April 10. A quarter of the budget would go toward technology, services and innovation, and another quarter (slightly more than 27%) to Voice of America.

Presiding Governor Michael Meehan, recently returned from Russia, shared some of the details of his trip, where he and Governor Susan McCue and Acting RFE/RL President Kevin Klose met with journalists from RFE/RL and VOA in Moscow, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul and human rights activist Lyudmila Alekseyeva.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting on June 19 will be held at RFE/RL’s offices in Prague and Washington.
