As South Korea researches HD Radio, Broadcast Electronics will supply gear for testing by the country’s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, or ETRI, under a bid contract BE has won.

Two BE HD Radio FXi 60 digital FM transmitters, XPi 10 signal generators and BE IDi 20 importers will ship this month. They will head first to testing of the digital radio standard in an ETRI lab; experimental broadcasts of digital radio through BE’s HD Radio technology are expected later in the year, the company said.

BE President/CEO Joseph Roark said the company was honored to be selected as what he called “the standard bearer for HD Radio technology in Korea.”

BE said its products, engineering and field support have participated in IBOC tests in other countries such as France, Thailand, New Zealand and the Philippines.

HD Radio technology has an established and growing presence in Asia and other parts of the world because of iBiquity’s technical partnerships with companies like BE, according to iBiquity President/CEO Robert Struble.
