CEA Creates Group to Unite Devices, Apps, Content
|
The first meeting of
a new Consumer Electronics Association
working group devoted to uniting devices, apps and content is slated in two
weeks. Broadcasters might want to pay attention, as the outcome could affect
how content is displayed and how users interface with that content on future CE
devices.
CEA said it created
the group to act as a forum for collaboration among device manufacturers,
content creators, aggregators and app developers to enhance
consumer availability of content and apps on CE devices.
A convergence of
content, apps and technology is affecting the consumer electronics
industry as seen at the 2012 CES, where a large number of the 20,000 or so product introductions were designed to unite CE and content, according
to the association.
The group will encourage business opportunities for manufacturers and content companies, according
to CEA SVP Industry Affairs Jason Oxman. “Our aim is to transform content
convergence so that consumers have better access to what they want directly
from their electronic devices.”
ESPN VP for Strategic
Business Planning Bryan Burns will chair the Device, Apps and Content
working group (DAC), which will be geared toward existing and prospective CEA
members with an interest in content distribution and app development.
The first working group meeting will take place as a teleconference on Feb. 29. For information, contact Kinsey Fabrizio at kfabrizio@CE.org.
