CEA Panel to Take on ‘Patent Trolls’
The Consumer Electronics Association announced topics of its Innovation Policy Summit during the upcoming 2013 International CES show.
Among them is the question of “patent trolls.” CES will include a panel of companies that it says have been “victimized” by such companies.
The question of patent trolls has taken on urgency in the radio industry due to the radio automation patent claims by Mission Abstract Data. Many observers have described that effort as fitting the pattern of “patent trolls.” The company consistently has declined to comment on its legal efforts.
Also on the CES agenda are discussions about “strategic” immigration, “e-waste,” safe driving, copyright policy, the implications of facial recognition technology and an update on voluntary spectrum auctions.
Another likely to draw interest is “Taking Flight: New Approaches to the Use of Consumer Electronics on Airplanes.”
CEA President/CEO Gary Shapiro will interview FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski as part of the agenda.
