Classical WQXR Expands Footprint

New York Public Radio has announced the acquisition of WDFH(FM), a public radio station in Ossining, N.Y.

According to a release, NYPR has changed the call letters of the station to WQXW and programs it as a translator for classical music station WQXR. A power increase to 250 W has been applied for.

President and CEO of New York Public Radio Laura Walker said, “When NYPR acquired WQXR, preserving one of New York’s finest cultural institutions and New York’s only all-classical station, we made a commitment to expand WQXR’s reach on all platforms.” She thanked the benefactors that made the acquisition possible, “We are thrilled to be back on the air in Central and Northern Westchester, and we are grateful to the Ford Foundation and Westchester-based donors for their support in bringing WQXR back to so many loyal fans in the region.”

According to a release, the Ford Foundation provided $300,000. The release also says that WQXR will work with regional arts groups such as the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts.
