Clear Channel Media and Entertainment New York, which owns and operates WAXQ(FM), WHTZ(FM), WKTU(FM), WLTW(FM), WWPR(FM) has announced two additions to its senior leadership. Thea Mitchem will serve as vice president of programming, and Bernie Weiss will take on the role of vice president of sales, reporting to President and Market Manager for Clear Channel New York Joe Puglise. 

As Vice President of Programming, Mitchem will oversee all programming for Clear Channel New York. She will manage the strategy and execution of the stations’ brands, increasing audience engagement for broadcast, digital and live entertainment, according to a release.

Mitchem most recently worked in Clear Channel’s D.C./Baltimore market, where she served as president and market manager for the nine-station cluster since May 2011. She began her career at Infinity Broadcasting’s WPGC(FM), joining Clear Channel in 2003 as director of urban programming for Philadelphia’s WDAS(FM), WUSL(FM) and WDAS(AM), was promoted to director of operations for the Philadelphia cluster in 2005. In 2008, Mitchem transferred back to Washington, D.C., continuing as director of operations and adding the task of programming WITH(FM) Hot 99.5.

Mitchem has received the Living Legend Award, Ronnie Johnson Radio Mentor of the Year Award, Clear Channel Performance of Excellence Award and the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) Executive Milestone Award. She was also named one of Radio Ink’s Most Influential Women in Radio in 2011 and 2012.

A release says that as VP of Sales, Weiss will oversee and develop the market’s sales management team as well as its new business and account service efforts. He joined Clear Channel New York in 2004 as an account executive for WWPR(FM). In 2005, Weiss was named local sales manager for WLTW(FM) and promoted as the station’s general sales manager in 2008. Then, In 2010 Weiss became general sales manager for WHTZ(FM), WWPR(FM) and WAXQ(FM). Weiss has also held various sales positions within Cox Radio, as well as Australian company Kronehit.
