Comrex is showing the portable Access stereo BRIC IP/POTS codec, which delivers broadcast audio over the public Internet.

Features include a user interface via integrated LCD/touchscreen display menus, a Web browser to ease connections to WiFi access points that require log-in, Ethernet port and a built-in rechargeable battery that supplies seven hours of talk time.

Users can connect to other data networks via the Cardbus slot including modem connections, 3G cellular data links (EVDO, UMTS) and WiFi or WiMax. The Ethernet port acts as an Internet sharing device, allowing use of laptops on circuits using Cardbus cards. MPEG-4-AAC algorithms are optional for high quality. The optional “clip-on” mixer creates a six-channel mixer that integrates with the features of the Access.

The Access Rackmount delivers mono or stereo audio over POTS, DSL, cable, WiFi, 3G cellular and satellite. Rack-mounted in a remote vehicle, the 1 RU unit can be configured to automatically connect to a preset connection upon power up.
