How NPR Is Getting to the Story in Haiti
|
NPR reporters in Haiti are carrying their own food, shelter and other survival items, including water and bug spray, as they cover the aftermath of the earthquake.
Vermont Public Radio posted an interview with NPR News Director of Operations Charlie Mayer about the field equipment being used. He addresses questions including how reporters are getting there, how they are powering their gear, the role of satellite phones, what happens if they have computer issues and other operational questions.
Satellite phones and laptops are also part of the equipment provisions. Condoms also are part of the basic equipment kit (they go over the microphones if it rains).
