Jingle Producer Tony Griffin Dies
Tony Griffin, 63, passed away suddenly on Sept. 29 at his studio in the Dallas area.
Griffin was a classic jingle-ID-commercial-music library package producer. He learned much of his craft from the legendary Tom Merriman and the TM companies’ crew before striking off on his own.
Griffin’s Tony Griffin Productions made a name for itself with national and international clients. Though he was known best for radio, he also produced music for TV and films.
He was born Dec. 18, 1948, in Chicago. He showed an interest in the arts, most notably music. Like many in the jingle industry, Griffin played in a number of bands and also picked up studio engineering skills along the way. He eventually found his way to Dallas where he hooked up with Merriman.
Griffin is survived by his son Justin, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandson Oliver, and his brother Robert. There will be a remembrance gathering at 10 a.m. Friday, at Restland Funeral Home’s Wildwood Chapel in Dallas. It will be followed by a service at 10:30 a.m.
