Johnson Named GM of NRG Media’s Ottawa, Ill., Cluster

NRG Media says it has tapped new leadership for its two-station radio cluster in the Ottawa, Ill., area. Ron Johnson has been named general manager for WCMY(AM) and WRKX(FM).

Since 2011, Johnson has served as president of QC-Cars, an online company he founded that manages inventory for local auto dealers and offers digital directory platforms for local direct business. He previously served as a sales, management and marketing consultant to a Chicago-based TV group that owned radio and television stations in Cedar Rapids and Independence, Iowa.

Johnson also spent decades working in sales and management, including serving as the director of sales for the Independent News Network in Davenport, Iowa and serving as general manager and general sales manager for TV properties in the Midwest and Southwest. In all, he has 35 years of experience in various parts of the broadcast industry.

NRG Media operates 45 radio stations in Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Illinois and is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
