LPFM Bill Passes House Committee

With a unanimous voice vote, the House Energy and Commerce Committee Thursday passed a bill to lift third-adjacent channel protections to full-power FMs, to allow more low-power FMs onto the dial. The measure now goes to the full House.
LPFM supporters say if passed, the measure would enable “hundreds” more LPFMs to gain channel space.
Prometheus Radio Project Campaign Director Cory Fischer-Hoffman said committee passage signals that Congress is ready to act on local community radio.
All five FCC commissioners recently affirmed support for the measure.
A companion Senate bill is pending before the Senate Commerce Committee. NAB has opposed expansion of LPFM, citing concerns over increased interference.
