NAB Urges FCC to Consider Spectrum Reallocation Implications

Last week, NAB filed comments with the FCC regarding the proposed rules for allocating Broad Auxiliary Spectrum for wireless broadband usage. The comments were authored by Rick Kaplan, Jane E. Mago, Jerianne Timmerman and Scott Goodwin.

In Section III of the comments, NAB references a proposal by wireless association CTIA to reallocate spectrum now used by broadcasters for electronic newsgathering to wireless companies, citing the current use of this spectrum for “lifesaving newsgathering services.”

NAB also emphasizes its belief that secondary market transactions that have allowed the industry to become more spectrally efficient, contrary to the CTIA assertion that there is an ongoing spectrum shortage.
