New President, Vice-Presidents for WorldDMB

Patrick Hannon, VP of Corporate Development at Frontier Silicon, was named the incoming president of WorldDMB 2013-2015 at the 19th WorldDMB General Assembly in Amsterdam.

He will assume leadership from outgoing President, Jorn Jensen of NRK Norway. WorldDMB members also elected as vice presidents Joan Warner, CEO of Commercial Radio Australia, and Joachim Kraus of ARD Germany, in addition to a new steering board.

This year’s event focused on the digital transition, as more countries continue to plan for and implement digital switchovers.

Keynote speaker Mark Dierikx, director-general for the Energy, Telecommunications and Competition said the Dutch ministry’s current policy provides for an analog radio switch-off date of no later than 2023, providing fulfillment of necessary criteria.

Attendees also heard about the progress that has been made in the automotive sector.

Another theme was the integration of digital radio into mobile handsets; WorldDMB, is offering technical support for the development of a user interface.

“Our key objectives now are to continue the roll-out of DAB into new markets and to accelerate the uptake of digital radio in cars and mobile phones,” said Hannon.
