NextRadio Licensee List Grows

The number of stations that are delivering enhanced content to users of the NextRadio smartphone app is growing. As we reported this week, parent company Emmis Communication says 760 stations now have full TagStation licenses, after Educational Media Foundation added its 390 main FM signals to the tally. An Emmis spokeswoman called the EMF announcement “a huge boost for the app’s content across several markets.”

Another 2,880 stations are using the free NextRadio logo service.

Emmis, whose TagStation subsidiary worked with NAB Labs to launch the app, has been lobbying other radio groups to adopt the system in order to help U.S. stations deliver a consistent visual, interactive experience over tuner-equipped smartphones.

The company provided RW with this list of 31 radio groups that have one or more stations using full TagStation to deliver enhanced content, rather than merely the free logo.

It said there have been 580,000 total downloads to date.
