|
TWR (formerly Trans World Radio) will receive the National Religious Broadcasters International Strategic Partnership Award during the NRB 2012
Convention & Exposition international keynote session on February 21. The
event runs from Feb. 18–21
in Nashville, Tenn.
NRB presents this
award each year to an organization member that has created a productive
partnership with indigenous ministries, accomplished strategic planning with
indigenous co-workers, demonstrated respect and understanding to cultural
diversities, as well as an important Christian outreach in the particular
culture.
With personnel fluent
in more than 200 languages and dialects, TWR, which has been broadcasting for
almost 60 years, says it reaches millions in some 160 countries, providing
religious programming through shortwave, FM and the Internet.
Other awards on tap
during the event include the NRB International Individual Achievement Award, which will go to Dr. Stoyko Petkov
for his work with Studio 865,
a media organization that produces radio programs in Bulgarian and Roma (Gypsy)
languages. Studio 865 is also involved in the production of television
programs, newspaper publishing and Internet ministry.
The NRB International Radio Ministry Award goes
to Radio Mosoj Chaski. Claiming more than one million
listeners, the station, based in Cochabamba, Bolivia, is being recognized for its effective broadcasting to Quechua
Indians in Bolivia.
“Its programming,
totally in the Quechua language and sent via shortwave, is a lifeline for news,
inspiration and Bible study for those living in the Andes Mountains and the
towns of Bolivia,” said Dr. Ron Harris, NRB senior vice president of Strategic
Partnerships. “Operating for more than 12 years, Radio Mosoj Chaski’s ministry
is strong and its impact is powerful,” he added.
Other honors include
the NRB International Impact Award, which will be handed to Mission Network,
and the NRB International Innovation Award, which will go to Jesus.net.
