Mt. Bigelow Arizona
Radio World reader Stephen Claasen, senior broadcast engineer, Arizona Public Media, sent us this chilling picture of the Mt. Bigelow, Ariz., transmission site, north of Tucson, Ariz. From 2009, he says, “The towers are about three miles away … From left to right the towers are: American Tower, Arizona Public Media (KUAT-TV/FM), KGUN(TV), KOLD(TV) and KVOA(TV).” It took him 3.5 hours to get up to the site.

We had to answer the phones at CBS channel 13 "It's COLD in Tucson." And it used to be that channels 4, 6, 9, and 13 would rotate the engineers up there on 24-hour shifts, and when lightning hit, you could always tell which station's engineer was on duty by the order in which signals were brought back up.
