Recorded Sound Archivists, Historians Converge in D.C.

One hundred and thirty years of recorded sound history are being explored as collectors, archivists and recording historians convene for the 43 Annual Conference of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections. Sessions begin today in Washington and the show continues through May 30.
The ARSC is a nonprofit group dedicated to the preservation and study of sound recordings — in all genres of music and speech, in all formats, and from all periods.
Sound recording copyright reform kicks off panel discussions, along with access to historic field recordings, a national study of audio preservation and restoration techniques. Other topics include: reproducing cylinder recordings, problems recovering linear digital audio tracks and phase equalization and its importance in the playback of disc records.
