Sirius XM Expects to Hit 25 Million Subs This Year

Subscriber numbers are up at Sirius XM Radio.

It said it ended the year with 23.9 million subscribers, and had 2 million net subscriber additions in 2012.

CEO Jim Meyer is the one quoted in its PR now that Mel Karmazin has left the building.

“SiriusXM set a post-merger record of 2 million net additions in 2012, and we expect to report financial and operating results that meet or exceed all of the guidance we provided for 2012,” Meyer said in the announcement.

“Net self-pay subscriber additions in 2012 increased over 30% to more than 1.6 million, turning in our best performance since 2008.”

Meyer noted that the company soon will launch a customization feature and said he expects subscribers to surpass exceed 25 million in 2013.

It's amazing; since the merger of XM & Sirius, the audio quality has gone down dramatically, as has the quality of music playlists and on-air personalities; yet they continue to gain more subs than what they lose in churn. I don't get it. There are better sounding AM stereo stations than many of the XM mono music channels!
