Audio equipment maker TASCAM has released an upgraded version of its DR-07 handheld digital recorder. The DR-07mkII will no doubt remind people of the recently released DR-05. They share many of the same features and form factor.

The DR-07mkII uses microSD and microSDHC cards as recording media for MP3 and BWF formats. For the BWF files up to 24-bit/96 kHz resolution is possible with MP3s topping out at 320 kbps. Playback has a variable speed option of 50–150 percent.

There is a two-second record buffer and a timer for delayed recording. Processing includes reverb, limiter, low-cut filter and a chromatic tuner. A USB 2.0 port allows for file transfer and powering. Two AA batteries are standard power. The mic/line input is 1/8-inch. The adjustable X-Y mics are omnidirectional.

Keeping playback levels even is a level-align limiter. Basic track editing functions are included. It ships with a 2 GB card.
