Amber Kadel, all of 10 years old, recently passed a technician level test and received her ham license.
The Mobile Press-Register recently profiled the daughter of Mobile, Ala., ham operator Roy Kadel and her quest to get her license.
Amber is in the fourth grade so study for the test required her to learn things beyond her elementary school education. Besides experience with her father she was also able to take advantage of the membership of a local ham group.
She said, "I want to use my license to talk to people around the world." The next project for Amber and proud father are outfitting her with her own equipment.
Young Miss Kadel is now KJ4KCP.
