Thomson Broadcast Consolidates, Renames Radio Business

To solidify its brand, three Thomson Broadcast companies will merge its radio business under the name Ampegon.

Ampegon will serve the radio transmission market, including scientific applications and green technologies.

The group will consist of the former Thomson Broadcast companies in Turgi, Switzerland; Schifferstadt, Germany; Beijing, China; and its sales office in Melbourne, Australia.

According to the company, the newly-coined name describes the three companies’ history and goals. “AMP” stands both for its amplifiers, as well as AM transmission. “MPEG” illustrates the focus on digital broadcast. “ON” is intended to symbolize switching on the group’s power.

Thomson Broadcast SAS France and Thomson Broadcast LLCs USA, which primarily cover the TV broadcast segment remain independent entities and will continue to operate under the Thomson Broadcast brand.
