Tieline Lets Genie Distribution Out of the Bottle

Tieline starts the new year by launching the Genie Distribution audio codec, emphasizing its ability to deliver large number of mission-critical audio streams reliably over the Internet and other IP audio connections.

Genie Distribution is a DSP-based IP audio codec for multipoint audio distribution over managed or unmanaged IP networks. It will connect six channels point-to-point, or distribute stereo audio to up to 50 multi-unicast endpoints, or multicast to an unlimited number of IP codecs.

The codec has dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual-redundant power supplies and audio silence detection.

Tieline makes special note of its SmartStream IP backup system. The codec can stream simultaneous redundant data streams from both Ethernet ports and will switch, without audio loss, from the primary data link to the backup if one fails, then switch back if the other recovers.

Also, when multiple redundant audio streams are sent, the decoding codec rebuilds the audio into a single stream on a “first packet arrived basis” to minimize latency and ensure audio integrity. And the system uses automated jitter buffer management and Forward Error Correction to maximize audio quality and respond to conditions over unmanaged IP networks like the Internet.

Genie Distribution is compatible with IPv4 and IPv6 infrastructures. It connects with all Tieline IP codecs and is EBU N/ACIP 3326-compliant for interoperability with SIP-enabled codec brands. It can be configured using the ToolBox browser-based tool and managed by Tieline’s Codec Management System; these tools allow adjustment of settings like jitter buffer, bit rates, algorithms and FEC.

Tieline also will offer a version for connecting to a WheatNet IP network, allowing the codec to distribute four channels of audio to another studio over external IP networks like the Internet.
