Tom Humm to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

Tom Humm, who helped in the formation and professionalization of the Nevada Broadcasters Association, is celebrating his 35th year as a Nevada broadcaster. Because of these and other accomplishments, Humm has been named the recipient of the 2013 NBA Lifetime Achievement Award. He will be honored at the 18th Annual NBA Hall of Fame Gala, on Aug. 17 at the Red Rock Resort, Casino and Spa.

Humm has served the Las Vegas community, and he is proud to be a part of teams who have provided over $50 million dollars in public service announcements and appearances for charitable and youth organizations. He also considers working for Beasley Broadcast to be the highlight of his career.

Oscar and Carolyn Goodman, the former and current mayors of Las Vegas, will be recognized for the roles they have played and continue to play in the rebirth of downtown Las Vegas and have been named the co-recipients of the 2013 NBA Pinnacle Achievement Award. They will also be honored at the Hall of Fame Gala.

In upcoming events, on Feb. 19, the Board of Directors will gather in downtown Reno for a dinner meeting at the La Famiglia Ristorante. Prior to the dinner, members of the board will attend the Reno Leadership Mixer at SoDo in a private area at the restaurant and bar.

Then the next day, Feb. 20, board members, general managers, news directors and management staff from around the state will gather in the Nevada capital of Carson City to plan Broadcasters Advocacy Day.

Attendees at Broadcasters Advocacy Day will break into small groups who will follow a predetermined schedule. Meetings with cabinet officers, key legislators and lobbyists will be set in advance. These meetings will be approximately 20 minutes in length and will include a short presentation outlining industry goals and community roles.

The NBA and Assemblywoman Ellen Spiegel will bring forward in the State Assembly legislation to address the development of an open market for publishing Public Notices. If passed, radio and television stations would have the opportunity to place Public Notices on their websites.

Broadcasters Advocacy Day will conclude with a General Manager’s Dinner at Louie’s Basque Corner in Reno, and attendees are asked to make dinner reservations in advance with Adam Sandler.

The annual Nevada Broadcasters Foundation Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held on May 13, at the Silverstone Golf Club in Las Vegas. Proceeds will go to the Tony and Linda Bonnici Broadcasters Scholarship Fund.
