Today's broadcast engineers increasingly may find their jobs indistinguishable from that of telecom engineers.

Along that line of thought, Trango Systems, a provider of telecommunications equipment, is promoting its latest, TrangoLink GigaPro, to broadcasters.

The GigaPro handles 1.5 Gbps in traffic bandwidth across 6–38 GHz in RF spectrum. The GigaPro also sports a number of interfaces including STM-1/OC-3, T1/E1 and Gigabit Ethernet.

The GigaPro occupies one rack space. Much of its operating performance comes via upgradeable software processing/routing. Reliability should be high and downtime is expected to be minimal with support for Hitless 1+1 Hot Standby switching.

Other features include 2+0 link aggregation for doubling capacity, east/west mode for relay links and space/frequency diversity configurations. All conform to hitless Adaptive Coding and Modulation parameters for efficient operation.
