Washington Post Radio, dubbed “NPR on caffeine,” by executives when it launched 17 months ago, is ending.

The station lost money and failed to generate listener interest, according to reports.

Bonneville International said it will end its deal with The Washington Post to program the station next month and re-launch the station as talk radio WWWT on Sept. 20. Bonneville has lined up syndicated personalities for the station; to reflect the diversity of programming, the station’s new slogan will be, “Left, Right and Whatever We Want.”

Washington Post columnist Marc Fisher, an occasional guest on Washington Post Radio, offered some insight into the birth and death of the station in his blog, “Raw Fisher.”
