WOR Revamps Lineup

Much has been made recently of shifts expected from Premiere Networks-syndicated “The Rush Limbaugh Show” and “The Sean Hannity Show.” Nowhere has this talk been more imperative than in the New York market where Limbaugh and Hannity aired on Cumulus Media-owned WABC(AM) for years — and put it on top of the ratings.

Premiere, however, is owned by Clear Channel and CC is now consolidating its operations. Limbaugh and Hannity will move to Clear Channel-owned WOR(AM) at the beginning of 2014. It is also bringing in Washington-based import Elliot Segal for the mornings, though Segal has worked in New York before.

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment President of Major Markets Tom Schurr said of the move, “Talk format listeners are extremely loyal and dedicated to their favorite personalities. This new lineup enables us to both give them what they’ve told us they want to hear and to invest in a format we are deeply committed to.”

The other big move is moving New York icon Joan Hamburg to weekends. The New York Daily News noted, “Hamburg’s departure from the weekday lineup, along with the previously announced retirement of longtime morning host John R. Gambling, terminates the last vestiges of WOR’s ‘heritage’ lineup.” A Gambling had aired on WOR for 80 of its app. 90 years on the air.
