The Ultimate Engineer’s Christmas Gift

Your very own station in Hawaii!

Courtesy of the sharp-eyed Frank McCoy is the ultimate broadcast engineer gift — your very own AM radio station.

Not only your very own station, but it’s in Hawaii!

Sound too good to be true? Okay, it looks to really be a construction permit at this point — 5 kW — but that simply gives the engineer complete latitude in building out the station. That way the engineer can avoid all those dumb decisions the penny-pinching ignoramuses at corporate would make.

Going by the pattern laid out it covers the city of Hilo and surrounding environs. Volcanoes Mauna Loa (active) and Mauna Kea (inactive, or so they say) make life exciting while the exquisitely moderate climate — it is literally 70–80 degrees F every day of the year (when it’s not raining, that is) — make life pleasant. Perfect for the retired engineer who isn’t quite ready for a rocking chair.

Finally, a station done right, from the ground up. Did I mention it’s in Hawaii!?! For $3,000 or maybe even cheaper. What are you waiting for?
