Radio Automation a Plenty

I’ve been trying to keep track of the many radio automation systems (or “music jukeboxes” in some cases) going in at radio stations. I’ve used products from BSI (Broadcast Software International), Google/WideOrbit, Broadcast Electronics, Arrakis, ENCO and a couple of others. Many stations look for the most cost-effective (cheapest), others go with supported systems, while many go with recommendations and what they know. For this Off the Beaten Path, I wanted to list a bunch of sites I’ve found over the past few months from “real radio automation” to the software some stations are using just for music playback.

Interestingly, European stations seem to have their own favorite radio automation systems (see last link). This list is in alphabetical order and I am not endorsing anyone here (as there are many good options). It’s just a reference of some of common (and uncommon) ones I’ve found over the past few weeks. By the way, I can’t imagine it’s a complete list, but I was surprised that stations have so many options.

This Radio Automation Review site is an interesting site that offers information and comparisons between many (mostly European) automation systems.

And finally …

As a movie buff, I found this a pretty fun link called “9 Iconic Movie Sets, starring… The Antiquities Act.”

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is dan_slentz@yahoo.com.
