This week I have some odds and ends collected from the Web. We start with the sound of nature. No, not bird calls or frogs or crickets … but TREES! Someone basically took a slice of a tree and treated the rings and variations as if they were the grooves of an analog 33 rpm album. The “music” it makes when played (on a special turntable) is haunting. We’ll then check some neat links related to vinyl and records.

Record Comeback
At one time it appeared as if vinyl was gone forever. It hung on for a while … slowly facing into Edison cylinder obscurity … except it refused to die. Here’s an interesting story out of Kansas about a company which presses records and is increasing their production ability. It’s also a testament on how old technology may actually still have value (as the old record presses had).

As Lawrence Welk once said (which makes for a great station imager), “All I can say is, ‘Oh, wow!’” Here’s a story to talk about at the water cooler. There’s plenty of opportunity to insert your own jokes after you’ve read this!
Name That Tune
I recently heard about MusicBrainz free software called “Picard.” Don’t know the song? Let Picard figure it out. It’s interesting software and tied to a major music databases. Pretty neat software!
And finally …
Caught this link for the Internet Archives Wayback Machine on a TV news story. It’s a bit strange but also interesting in intent. This group basically snaps photos of web sites and has done so for years and years. The still image of the website’s face page is then saved. Check it out.
