Free and Sci-Fi

Back to work (if you can call it that) after a two-week hiatus. Hopefully you had the chance to hit the NAB Show in Vegas. Great show but radio couldn’t have been more spread out (though I hear rumors that radio finally gets consolidated back to the North Hall next year ... which is great!) This week on Off the Beaten Path, a few neat freebies and some fun stuff.

Orban Free Loudness Meter Software
Many of you may have already seen this (and grabbed it) but if you haven’t, here’s a cool little Windows app which allow you to monitor computer audio.

Free “Space Sounds”
Anything free is always cool, but you might have a production in need of this (or just enjoy the freakiness of space sounds).

“Tron Paint”
If you saw “Tron” (the old or new), besides being in a small group of people, you probably thought their transportation was interesting. I thought this video was reminiscent of “Tron.” It’s actually a paint Volvo calls Life Paint and could really be a future lifesaver.

Solar Roadways
Here’s something to file under “wish I had thought of that!” This is a fascinating idea which I hope comes to fruition someday. The idea is using roadways as massive solar collection systems. It’s an interesting idea and fun to imagine as part of our future.

And finally ...
Many people in technology are into Star Trek (and the many iterations of the show). Might be because it paints a great future for society or maybe it’s just the cool stuff in the shows. As a Trek geek, I stumbled across this neat link of the Top 10 Star Trek endings. You might enjoy this too.

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is dan_slentz@yahoo.com.
