Free Programming

Everyone likes free or you get what you pay for

Over the past few weeks, I’ve found a number of sources for free programming and bits for noncommercial stations including LPFMs. Keep in mind that some of this material is for radio stations but not necessarily broadcast (over-the-air) radio stations. And most people recognize that good radio is usually LOCAL radio … but sometimes the diversity is needed or welcome in programming. Certainly before I broadcast something I have downloaded, I’d confirm the right to use it along with what material it contained (my disclaimer, so use your own judgment and consult your legal expert). Some of the material is interesting and some is … well, different.

LPFM Programming
The material from Global Community Radio comes with a claim of being for community radio. This could be Part 15 or LPFM.

Radio in the Can
More canned radio programming, this time from The a-Infos Radio Project. Some of the material looks questionable, but might be fun to check out (at least through your computer)

Radio Programming & PSA Source
The Part 15 Lab is is a good collection of links … including some recognized credible program sources. There are some notes included on the rights for use.

My Secret Gem
This has been a favorite “secret site” of mine for years. I’m a fan of using sound bites in station imagers. My own thinking is that a good sound bite (short piece of sound from movie or TV show) is very relatable to the listeners and often funny or just a good bridge for music. The Daily .WAV is a great place to find them (and a new one daily).

And finally …
Another “Shack” alternative — Thanks to Lou Schneider at KCRW(FM) in Santa Monica, Calif., for emailing me this link. With Radio Shack not on nearly every corner any more, it’s good to find alternative parts providers and those with some “odd lots” in electronics. Here’s one from Lou, All Electronics.

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is [email protected].
