Dan’s Hollywood Fluff

Dan has stars in his eyes

This edition of Off the Beaten Path focuses on Hollywood and some history, magic and fluff. Yes, just like old days of David Letterman’s “Hal Gurnee’s Network Time Killers,” this OTBP is about the same.

Charlie Chaplin’s Studio
One driving force in early Hollywood was Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin was a multitalented individual who did everything from acting to composing musical scores to running his own studio. Here are two interesting links involving the actor and his studio. Great view of the creation of the studio (first link) and Chaplin behind-the-scenes, to its current form as the studio to the Muppets (second link). (Especially enjoy the announcer on the first video!)

“Antique” Movie Bloopers
Part of film making includes the outtakes which we often don’t get to see. This is interesting because these bloopers come from Abbott & Costello during the making of “Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein.”

And if you liked the Abbott & Costello, here are a few more which include old TV series.

Strange Hollywood Deaths
With the recent tragic death of Anton Yelchin who played Chekov in the new Star Trek movies, it reminds of some of the other losses of some of favorite movie and TV actors.

Hollywood Myths
Who was the Gerber baby? Was there a ghost in the film “Three Men and a Baby”? Here’s a link to the truth behind some Hollywood myths.

Celebrity Homes
From the pages of “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.”

And finally …
Here’s a getaway link to some lesser-known travel destinations. Many of these places seem like they were creations of Hollywood, but they’re real. Even if you can’t get to them, visiting the site and looking at the pictures may give you a five-minute “mental vacation.”

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is [email protected].
