Dan’s Funny Collection of Stuff

This edition of Off the Beaten Path is particularly scattered with odd, different, or just fun links. And there is a very valuable lesson to be learned here — pay those storage unit fees. Can you believe what that guy found? But first …

Off The Grid
I stumbled across this link a few weeks ago and can now make use of it. Though I have about 15 years of regular work ahead of me, it’s not too soon to start thinking about how I might retire (and what I might retire to). Here’s a site about “off the grid” living, meaning being more self-reliant. I thought this was a pretty neat house (and probably some good fishin’).

Computer Coding
I made it all through high school without the chance to touch a computer. Only the Air Force “made sure” I learned how to use a computer (thanks to the U.S.A.F. for some excellent learning experiences!). If you’ve ever considered learning coding, or the way to program computers, this link provides some great places to learn. Remember that it’s never too late to learn.

Weird Science
This just falls under the heading of “I didn’t know THAT.” But I’m not quite sure how useful this info is.

Audience Canned Laughter
If you haven’t seen this, it’s an awesome piece of broadcast history; basically found on its way to the dumpster. He’s the tape loop player that was used for “canned laughs.” It’s an incredibly great piece of early engineering by Charles Douglass.

And finally ...
From a website called “Inspire More” is this great moment from the TV show “Undercover Boss.” It reminds us how easy it truly is to make a difference to another person.

If you stumble across a good or unusual web site that might be of interest, please don’t hesitate to send me the link and any info you might have about it. My email address is dan_slentz@yahoo.com.
