It’s the Holidays

Dan wishes he hadn’t thrown away that old Walkman

We continue with our Off the Beaten Path holiday editions. Look for a special top 10 Off the Beaten Paths of the year later this month (there’s my “radio tease”). For this particular blog, we’ll look at some items you may have gotten as a Christmas gift. Hopefully, you saved these “electronic gems” because when you see what their worth now …! Also some links to great old jingles and a few other goodies.

Expensive Vintage Electronics
Here’s a website with electronic items that are worth a gob of money now. These are things you wouldn’t expect, including a phone and goofy old adding machine. Some of the items you may have received for Christmas years ago. Maybe it’s time to go out to your garage and look around to see if you still have some of this stuff!

Jingles
Who doesn’t like a good jingle? Radio stations have used jingles for years. Some are great, some are good, and some … well, … you know. Here are two links to some old jingles from two very good websites, Jingle Jetsam and Topcat’s list. Enjoy!

A Labor of Love
I’ve done a lot of house remodeling over the years. Love doing it and love the results. But this guy took it to a whole new level with a 184-year-old house. Only three outside walls remained standing from the 1833 beauty, but he made it whole again. Great pics and neat story.

Native American Lands
The United States’ original inhabitants had their own territories, and this interactive map is very interesting and informative. If you are interested in archeology and American history, you might really enjoy this. Enter the city and state, and you can see which tribes held the land.

Abandoned Movie Sets
A fun link if you like movie history, but the automated “robot” voice probably couldn’t be more annoying. If you can get past the announcing, the pictures are awesome!

And Finally …
A house for about $33,000 and only takes three people about six hours to build? We’re not talking about the mansion from “The Beverly Hillbillies” here, but something about the size of a nice garage (290 sq. ft.). Or for $73,000, a little 904 sq. ft. house. This is actually a pretty neat little design. Looking towards that no-frills “radio retirement?” Here ya go! (P.S. Looking for that perfect “new build” for your small radio station? This would also be very nice!)
