The FCC upheld a $15,000 fine against Jeffrey Darius for operating a pirate station in Miami.
In March, the Miami office of the Enforcement Bureau proposed the original fine, saying Darius operated an unauthorized station on 88.7 MHz in Miami.
Responding to an interference complaint from AT&T Mobility, FCC agents found two antennas “typically used by unlicensed stations” mounted on the roof of a building in which Darius leased a rooftop suite for “Blaze.”
Agents interviewed Darius and said he admitted the transmission gear was his and that he knew he needed a license to broadcast.
Now, the commission says Darius hasn’t responded to the notice, so the agency reaffirmed the penalty.
He has 30 days to pay or the case may be turned over to the Justice Department for collection.
