Chrysler Sedan to Offer HD Radio

2015 200 is first Chrysler brand vehicle to do so

Chrysler announced at the North American Auto Show it will offer HD Radio as a standard feature in the new 200 mid-size sedan.

The 2015 200 is the first Chrysler-branded vehicle to offer HD Radio, which, along with SiriusXM and various ways to access digital music like USB and aux inputs, are all standard. Chrysler joins related brands including Dodge, Jeep , Ram and SRT, which have already introduced vehicles that include the digital radio technology.

Chrysler says, at 8.4 inches, the 200 offers the largest touchscreen in its class. The car comes with a 12-month trial of the automaker’s Uconnect access system that enables embedded cellular technology, allowing the driver to communicate with emergency service providers as well as a mobile phone app allows the driver to start the car or lock or unlock the doors.

Uconnect also enables what Chrysler says is “on-demand Wi-Fi hot-spot capability.” With this capability, drivers can listen to their personal Internet radio accounts and stream audio using their mobile phone data plans. Passengers can buy Wi-Fi hotspot capability for a day, week or month.

Uconnect access via mobile brings four Internet radio apps into the vehicle: Aha by Harman, iHeartRadio, Pandora and Slacker.

Uconnect Voice Command allows drivers to operate their mobile phone, music and navigation systems hands-free. By connecting their mobile phone to the system, drivers can also switch radio modes, tuning to AM, FM, HD Radio or SiriusXM.

In addition to the controls on the center stack, Chrysler includes rocker switches on the back of the steering wheel. Audio system controls, including next station, radio preset and previous station or track, are located on the left rear. Volume up or down and change audio source are located on the right rear of the steering wheel.

The car also features a configurable 7-inch instrument gauge cluster.

The automaker expects the 2015 Chrysler 200 to arrive at dealerships in the second quarter of this year.
