Cumulus Launches National Brand Based On Country Music

Introducing NASH brand and New York City’s only country music radio station

Cumulus Media has launched NASH, a multi-platform entertainment brand based on country music that will feature radio stations, a monthly magazine, a website, social media, concerts and TV programming. The NASH radio station serving New York City — WNSH(FM) (previously known as WRXP) — went live Jan. 21, becoming the only country station serving that market.

“Cumulus is committed to serving this significant lifestyle segment that stretches from coast-to-coast by creating a full complement of content on the radio, in print, online and on TV,” said Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey.

Its radio programming will include live shows, some originating from Nashville, and will be available through Cumulus Media Networks. All 83 country stations owned by the media company will feature the NASH brand and content.

NASH Magazine, to be published by Modern Luxury, will debut in the second half of 2013, along with an interactive website, social media content and concerts.

Country music is the most popular radio format in the United States, and Nashville culture is increasingly visible in mainstream entertainment. According to Nielsen, in 2012, five of the top 10 music albums were country, and Billboard says that four of the top 10 phone ringtones last year featured country songs. The genre’s share of total radio is listening is now at an all-time high, according to Arbitron.
