When the 2013 International CES show kicks off tomorrow, iBiquity Digital Corp. will demonstrate consumer radio products supporting Active Alerts technology.
It says Active Alerts allows radio stations to broadcast notifications from the Emergency Alert System through the HD Radio digital broadcast system. Alert notifications will generate pop-up text messages and trigger wake-up/snooze capability on receivers that support the technology. Products such as the commercially available JVC KW-NT810HDT, a CES innovation award winner, carry the feature.
IBiquity told Radio World it had showed a prototype of the technology previously.
HD Radio Active Alerts offer “a compelling and reliable public service capability to radio broadcasters and the public,” said iBiquity Digital COO Jeff Jury. He said this development brings radio emergency alerts into the digital age, providing consumers with more advanced messaging for emergencies or disasters.
The company plans a demo during a public briefing at the National Weather Service/FEMA booth in the South Hall of the LVCC on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m., and in its own booth in the Central Hall during the show.
