Clear Channel Media and Entertainment says that its iHeartRadio streaming app has topped the 50 million mark in registered users. The computer/gaming/mobile device app and its associated network streams Clear Channel radio stations and other content.
The company claims that number, achieved in the three years after a 2011 launch, was reached faster than Twitter or Facebook reached the same number. Clear Channel figures the number of users is actually higher due to a large number of unregistered users.
The company says the app has been downloaded 345 million times. It also said that in May, the iHeartRadio network had 97 million unique users. The iHeartRadio brand has been added to music festivals and televised award shows.
