Livewire and Ravenna Are Friends

Interoperability announced by AoIP developers

ALC NetworX, developers of AoIP technology Ravenna, and Telos Alliance’s Axia Audio division, creators of the Livewire IP-Audio standard, announced at the NAB Show that their once-competing technologies have become allies.

New Axia xNode IP-Audio interfaces now support fundamental operation principles of Ravenna and can therefore interact with Ravenna-enabled devices. The xNodes, which use IEEE 1588-2008 as the primary synchronization standard, feature synchronized stream operation as defined within Ravenna.

“With 34 Livewire partners and 14 Ravenna partners already on board, broadcasters will benefit immediately from a dramatically expanded universe of nearly 70 networked pro audio products that can work together,” said Michael Dosch, Axia Audio president. “And even more partners and products will become available over time.”

Ravenna nodes can now interchange streams with Livewire legacy nodes thanks to the newly defined Ravenna Interoperability Profile. This permits users to add Ravenna-enabled products to many existing Livewire installations, which can continue to operate in Livewire legacy mode or connect with fully operational Ravenna islands, using selected stream interchange between legacy Livewire and Ravenna nodes.

“Combining Axia’s experience with the latest breed of technology from Ravenna results in a solution that answers the tallest requirements of a wide range of present and future broadcasting applications,” said Philipp Lawo, CEO of ALC NetworX.

Both Axia and Lawo are showing functional Livewire and Ravenna interoperable products at the NAB Show.
