Why: The mission of KLEK is to diversify and share a fresh perspective to the local community via music, news, issues and culture by educating, entertaining and empowering the community in an effort to strengthen, unify and serve our neighbors.

We believe that since the airwaves belong by law to the public, the public should have access to them. We believe that we have as basic a right to speak on the radio, as well as to listen. And we have a unique opportunity.

When the LPFM window was opened, we were the only applicant in a growing city with a population approaching 75,000. We will make history as the first black-owned radio station in the city. We have already been approached to donate some materials for the local black history museum for people to study long after we’re gone.

How: GM LaGanzie Kale is a former program director for Delta Force Radio — KCLT(FM), Helena-West Helena, Ark., KAKJ(FM), Marianna, Ark., and WNEV(FM), Friars Point, Miss.
