NAB, Board Determining Technology Department’s Structure

Discussions ongoing on whether, how to fill Kevin Gage’s position

In the story we broke yesterday, we noted former NAB EVP/CTO Kevin Gage has left the organization after his three-year contract was up.

He was offered a new contract, which he declined.

It’s not yet known what his plans are. His LinkedIn page, for example, still lists him at the broadcast association.

Gage came to the association in May 2011 to set a new technology direction for members — to keep their technology relevant and develop ROI-related tech products for the future. Gage had led the technology group at Warner Music and developed online strategies at NBCU. He also holds two patents on multimedia program distribution.

For radio, he helped shaped the NAB Labs efforts that helped fund the NextRadio app and AM all-digital testing for HD Radio. For television, the Labs efforts cover mobile DTV and spectrum auction issues.

NAB spokesman Dennis Wharton said work on NAB Labs projects continues uninterrupted, crediting the “strong team” in the Technology Department.

SVP Lynn Claudy, who used to head the department when it was called NAB Science & Technology, does so again in the interim.

NAB, along with input from its board, is determining whether and how Gage’s position will be filled.
