Panelists Slated for NAB Show AM Panel

Revitalization for the AM band to be discussed by engineers, policy experts

The AM radio revitalization panel is coming together for the upcoming NAB Show.

FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai moderates the panel entitled “AM Band Revitalization Featuring FCC Commissioner Ajit V. Pai.” It is scheduled for April 8 at 3 p.m.

The panel features AM leaders, as well as engineering and policy experts, including NAB AM Task Force Chair and Bryan Broadcasting owner Ben Downs, BounceOlogy President Diane Warren, CBS Radio SVP Engineering Glynn Walden, Womble Carlyle attorney John Garziglia and Garvey Schubert Barer attorney Melodie Virtue.

At the fall Radio Show, Pai called for the commission to consider various tactics to help struggling AM owners. The FCC has allowed more AMs to operate on FM translators, for example.

The NAB Radio Board is also reviewing various technical options to help AM band stations.

The session is part of both the Broadcast Management and Broadcast Engineering conferences.
