Report: Google, Apple Collaborate on Car Tech

WSJ says the companies to make big splash at CES

As automakers develop better ways to help consumers stay connected while driving, Google and Apple next week will announce that they’re working together on connected car technology.

That’s according to a recent story in the Wall Street Journal, which says the companies are collaborating to develop in-car entertainment and information systems based on Google’s Android software.

The development includes other companies like chipmaker Nvidia, according to the account.

Apple in June began an initiative to integrate iPhones and other devices running its iOS operating system with dashboard control panels. BMW, GM, Honda and Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz division are part of the effort.

The point is to line up allies to bring Apple and Google technology into the car, according to Gartner analyst Thilo Koslowski, reports the WSJ.
