SiriusXM, AT&T Connect New Nissans
As SiriusXM plans to add telematics to its in-car offerings, the satcaster is supplementing its satellite network with cellular networks to expand its features for new Nissan vehicle buyers.
AT&T will provide the mobile connectivity to support SiriusXM’s suite of security and other services for Nissans sold in North America.
The satcaster says SiriusXM in-vehicle telematics will provide Nissan owners 24/7 emergency support for accidents, stolen vehicle tracking and roadside assistance; additional services will be announced later.
AT&T Emerging Enterprises and Partnerships Organization President Glenn Lurie said “Your future car is going to be a smartphone with four wheels with capabilities specifically built for a safe and enhanced customer experience.” By adding fast, reliable and built-in mobile Internet for SiriusXM’s forthcoming in-car experience, Lurie said AT&T “is powering a connected experience inside Nissan automobiles for both drivers and passengers.”
SiriusXM describes itself as a connected vehicle services provider for Nissan. As such, it’s working with AT&T to deliver those telematics. SiriusXM EVP Operations and Products Enrique Rodriguez characterizes the satcaster as the leader in subscriptions services to the car delivering “ubiquitous coast-to-coast delivery of unparalleled audio entertainment and information services.” Now, the company expands its entertainment and information offerings in the car to telematics, he said.
