Of course they work in radio. WFED’s news team celebrates their website views milestone. Hubbard Broadcasting’s WFED(AM), Federal News Radio, in Washington announced it reached a “milestone” in February.
But it’s not a listenership milestone, per se. It was a page view milestone for its website. The station claimed three million page views for the news-heavy website. No doubt traffic was driven by the threat of a sequestration of a portion of the federal government’s spending and the station’s format of covering government news made it a hot destination for Washington area citizens.
WFED claims to be the first station to move from an Internet-only distribution model to an actual broadcaster. Initially it was on a weaker signal at 1050 kHz but when powerhouse news station WTOP moved from its longtime home at 1500 kHz to the FM band at 103.5 MHz, under previous owner Bonneville International, WFED inherited the 50 kW signal at the well-known frequency.
